Addison Gardiner (March 19, 1797 in Rindge, Cheshire County, New Hampshire – June 5, 1883 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician who was the Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals from 1854 to 1855. ==Early life and career== He was admitted to the bar in 1822, and began practicing law in Rochester, opening a law firm with Samuel L. Selden, who later became a judge of the New York Court of Appeals. The latter's brother Henry R. Selden, later himself a lieutenant governor and judge of the Court of Appeals, was a law student at this firm. Gardiner was the first Justice of the Peace ever elected in Rochester.
